Yesterday after work I was totally exhausted. Like life had been drained from me. So I went home and got on the couch. No training. I did however ride 45 min that morning....
Today was visit the surgeon day!!!!!! I got up and rode the trainer for an hour...legs were good and I was happy. I had visions of me getting the go ahead to amp up the training and get on with getting back to long running...really I knew it was going to happen. Well fuck me it didn't.
Got xrays...Doc comes in looks at scar so we talk about what I have been doing. He mentions he watched the video from RATS last year and said...wow, that is intense...then we started talking about training...I told him what I had done so far and he "seemed" okay with it then he said the words that might as well been a claymore mine in my head..."I don't want you running 2 hours a day 5 days a week". Boom...I told him that was the reason I have asked him if I could run a dozen times...I need that kind of volume to race RATS...
I have no idea what I am going to do now...walk incline at the gym...ride the trainer...run a little? I dunno...I have to let this thing heal. Have to...but I so want to push.
I am sure I will feel better about it but I am pretty low right now. Depressing.

Back for more...
April 20th, 2010...Tues Twilight Crit Series...C race at 18:06...training came to a ??? Slamming halt as I hit the ground. Scott Haas and I had the field on the rivet...we hit the right hander before the finish turn...he went surfing...I mouse trapped over the top of him...April 29th Doc Stafford installed 9 screws and a plate to hold things in place...
4 Days later with his okay...I ran 3 miles. Fucking crazy...the next day 5 miles....at that point I had proven to my self that I was okay and I could run...now what take the next 5 days off and heal...Desert RATS is a maybe but only 5 weeks away. Can I? Hell if I know but I am going to give it a try...LOL what is the worst that could happen?
Since the operation each day I have been getting better. Less pain, hell there are times I don't even know that it happened.
So here is the first real week back to training:
Monday:
45 min spin on the trainer...felt good. Holding basically one handed sucks.
After work went to the gym got on the mill of dread for an hour...combo of run/walk at steep incline...no worries on the shoulder.
Tues:
45 min Spin AM...felt pretty good.
1 hour on the pave with LMS 9:45 per mile avg...felt okay...got achy for a few min after the run.

Some times I wonder
It has been hot for my last few runs. What I consider stupid fucking hot...100 degrees with high heat indexes...it has been tough. I think it is kind of interesting that some people won't run in it. A few friends are running early mornings to avoid the heat...Shelley always asks are you running tonight? It is hot you know? I don't know if it does and good or harm but yeah I am running in the heat. If we only run/train when the conditions are good how are we going to race when the conditions are bad?
It is a miserable son of a bitch out there when it is hot or cold for that matter...but on race day we only get what is served.

Ponderings and training stuff
Well this week has been a bit of a downer training week. I am still pretty tired and might have done a little much last week. I will get some good stuff in this weekend because the mind is good but the body wants more sleep. No worries, it is going to be a long year in preparing for Desert RATS 2010...
I was thinking last night about is endurance sport what I do or who I am? I have known many people in the past few years who live and die by the race clock and the time it reflects. I must admit I have been there myself a few times but I think I have turned that corner and although my lifestyle includes endurance sport and by the nature of the events I enjoy I spend a very large part of my spare time doing and training for these events. I do them purely for the enjoyment of the effort. Yes I still like to see times on the clock that I think are "good" I cherish the effort, the people and the places. I have said it before...it is the faces and the places not the finish times of my races.
Have fun.

Keeping on keeping on
Good spin last night...knee wasn't tracking well. I think it is due to my laying off the bike. Felt okay this morning. I think I will go for a short run tonight to see how things are.
It feels awesome getting back at it.

Moving again....
Did a nice hour spin last night after going to see Terri (PT) for my shoulder. I have to get my shoulders stronger. I think my lack of swimming the past year has been a factor. No worries, my legs still work...for now anyway.
Weight is back to normal 196.8 so I have 16 lbs to shed in the next year. No problem right...well I have yet to be successful in that endevor...we'll see.
